The 14th Annual WHFR Record Show is Saturday, OCT 21st!
The WHFR Record Show will feature thousands of records, CDs, DVDs, videos, cassettes, books, posters, print-work, clothing, artwork, and other forms of music, movie and pop-culture memorabilia for sale by independent, local, and out-of-state vendors, selling everything from rare independent releases to highly sought-after collectable titles. The admission fee is actually a donation to our non-profit, volunteer-run radio station! Attendees will receive one ticket for each dollar donated. Each ticket can be redeemed for a free CD or LP from WHFR's purged music collection AND will be entered into the hourly "Record Show Cash" raffle.

EDGEFEST RADIO SPECIAL TUESDAY OCTOBER 17, 6-10PM EDT
Spirits Rejoice Radio will present a special program spotlighting the artists who will be performing at the 27th Annual Edgefest in Ann Arbor. The festival will run from Wednesday October 18 through Saturday October 21. Edgefest is a world renowned showcase for the jazz avant-garde and features a multitude of great musical artists from around the globe as well as just around the corner.
Tune in to Spirits Rejoice Tuesday, October 17th, from 6-10pm EDT with Pat Frisco to hear many of the great artists performing at this year's Edgefest.
Edgefest will be held at Ann Arbor's Kerrytown Concert House at 415 N. 4th Street.

"WHFR Journal" - Basketball and the Hawk's Nest
Please tune in to this week's edition of the WHFR Journal when we talk with HFC Men's Basketball Coach Christopher Shepard about his approach to coaching a winning team and his thoughts on the season ahead. We'll also talk with HFC Student Activities Assistant Kayla Colling about the HFC Hawk's Nest Food Pantry and the important food drive that's currently taking place to help restock the pantry and support our students in need. Thelonious Monk Birthday Broadcast October 10th
They called him the High Priest of Modern Jazz and rightfully so. Thelonious Sphere Monk was born October 10, 1917, and proceeded to turn the jazz world on its ear with his inventive style of piano playing, quirky compositions and general demeanor on stage. His piano stylings remain unique to this day and his compositions, once considered too difficult to perform, are now re-interpreted by countless musicians worldwide.
WHFR Radio's Spirits Rejoice program will pay tribute with a five-hour birthday celebration on Tuesday October 10, from 6:00pm to 11:00pm. Join Pat Frisco for a look into the music of Monk through Monk's own recordings and interpretations by others.

WHFR Journal This Week: Symphonic Music and Local Cuisine
Join us for the "WHFR Journal" on Friday, Sept. 29 at 1pm when we talk with the Conductor and Music Director of the Dearborn Symphony Orchestra Maestro Steven Jarvi. Maestro Jarvi will highlight their upcoming 62nd season including this first performance, with opening night on October 13th featuring "Rach and Roll". Also on the show, we'll discuss the opening of the 5101 Restaurant here at HFC with Chef de Cuisine Joseph Cosenza. Chef Cosenza will share menu highlights and some of his inspiration for this fall season from his recent travels. Tune in Friday from 1pm-2pm for the WHFR Journal.
World College Radio Day: Friday, October 6th
World College Radio Day 2023 is Friday October 6th. The theme for this year's World College Radio Day is "Where All Voices Are Welcome".
For us at WHFR, it's a chance to celebrate what college and independent radio has meant to the artists, listeners and our broadcasters over the years; and how it continues to impact our community.
Please join WHFR Radio on Friday October 6 from noon-2:00pm for a special two-hour broadcast in celebration of World College Radio Day. Some of our own WHFR DJs will chat about the influence that college and non-commercial radio has had on them personally; and play music from the many genres of music that WHFR continues to champion.

Join us at 1pm on Friday, September 22, for the "WHFR Journal", WHFR's local news and views talk show. To honor Suicide Prevention Month, we'll talk with HFC Counselor Deb Gates on the topic of mental health and the resources available for students and employees here at HFC. Then we'll share the new PRX special "Coping 101: At the Forefront of Suicide Prevention". Tune in to hear this important information on the WHFR Journal Friday at 1pm.

"History Notes" Resumes August 27th!
History Notes is returning to the airwaves with a renewed focus on the corpus of American Blues and Roots music, emphasizing the history/background of the music being played. Throughout the show, host Brian Yamstein will explore American history and the lives of the performers who created the music being featured.
