As we gear up to celebrate WHFR's 40th birthday at the end of the year, our staff has been feeling extra nostalgic. So, tonight on The Jump Button, it's THROWBACK THURSDAY: 2010 Edition!

Here at WHFR we thought that would be a great time to remind all of our wonderful listeners that 2025 marks our 40th year of broadcasting live on the air at 89.3FM!

Our actual "birthday" is December 20th, and we have quite a few special events (both on-air and in-person) planned, so "stay tuned!"

“WHFR PRESENTS”: Chuck Mangione

This Sunday, August 17th from 4-7pm, join host Terence Tyson as he presents the music of the trumpet and flugelhorn giant.

Chuck Mangione was born to Italian-American parents in Rochester, New York, where his parents operated a grocery store. He burst into the jazz scene as a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers band in the 1960s. He also worked with his brother Gap before branching out on his own, then found commercial success in the '70s with the hit “Feels So Good” that earned him a Grammy award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance in 1979.

On tomorrow's WHFR Journal, our news, views, public and community affairs talk program at 1pm, we'll air a new installment of the provocative PRX show Climate One from August 8, 2025 called "Young People Are Bringing Climate To Court. And Winning". We’re all feeling the effects of the fossil-fueled climate crisis, but young people will not let this threat to their future go unchallenged. They’re taking it to the courts. Join us and learn more about this movement where youth are using their voices and education for this far-reaching cause they believe in.

WHFR is celebrating 40 years on FM radio, officially in December. For quite a few of those years, I have done many different genres on several different shows. One of my favorites has always been Brain Ticket Death. Named after a Merzbow track, the show has always been about pushing the envelope of what is possible in making sounds not for the melodies, but from pure human expression.
