Mayoral Forums on THIS Friday's WHFR Journal

Join WHFR this Friday, July 30 at noon for a special two-hour edition of the WHFR Journal. The cities of Dearborn and Dearborn Heights will be holding mayoral primary elections on Tuesday, August 3. On this week's show, you'll get a chance to hear from the candidates, courtesy of a pair of mayoral candidate forums hosted by the League of Women Voters of Dearborn - Dearborn Heights. Up first we'll hear from two of the three candidates whose names will be on the ballot in Dearborn Heights, followed by 6 of the 7 candidates Dearborn residents will be choosing from. That's the WHFR Journal, starting at a special time of 12pm, this Friday, July 30 on WHFR.

More WHFR Local DJs Return to the Airwaves

WHFR welcomes back more live local DJs to the airwaves, and we couldn't be more excited! Returning to their programs are Lucas Punk, on Tuesdays 10 pm-midnight, with Punk N’ Junk, playing the best and latest punk rock around, DJ Sho on Wednesdays 10 pm-midnight with Soundtrack City, featuring soundtracks from various movies and TV shows, and Andrew on Thursdays 10 pm-midnight with Alternative Anthem, playing alternative rock. Be sure to check our broadcast schedule above which is updated as our local DJs proudly return to the airwaves.

Rock Festivals are Back

The global pandemic has been tough on everyone and attending live music performances was one of a long list of things we had to go without during the pandemic. The good news is that with things starting to look up music festivals have been planned and promoted. The following is a list (not exhaustive) of festivals that have rock music in their lineup if not fully dedicated to it. If rock festivals are your thing then check out the list below.

Radio Vault Tuesday 10am-12pm: Abbot & Costello AND Baseball!

Today's Radio Vault Special Edition on WHFR at 10am is truly special.... this show came together in bits and pieces: First hour, the zaniness of Abbott & Costello when they had Frank Sinatra on their radio program.

The second hour, BASEBALL! We'll hear the first episode of the Babe Ruth Show with Jackson Beck (the voice of Superman) as the narrator. Next, Bill Stern the Colgate Shave Cream Man talks about the legendary Bob Feller.

Celebrating Pride Month on the WHFR Journal with SAFE@HFC and SAGA

Join us on the "WHFR Journal" this Friday, June 18 at 1 pm as we celebrate Pride Month and learn about SAFE@HFC and SAGA, two amazing campus organizations at HFC. SAFE@HFC is comprised of faculty and staff LGBTQ+ allies and community members who are spreading awareness on campus, providing support, and connecting students and employees to resources, and SAGA is HFC's LGBTQ+ student-run club.

Punk from Down Under

If you aren’t aware the folks down in Australia have been doing lately, and have an interest in punk or garage rock then I have a few bands for you. First, let me give a short description of the sound you get from these bands, its like revved up fast, high energy punky garage rock. Take away the harmonies and typical production aesthetics over used in pop punk and leave the attitude and energy.

Special Interview with Propaganda during LIGHT FROM THE UNDERGROUND Saturday June 12 at 11am

Check out Light from the Underground Saturday June 12, from 10:00 a.m. to Noon. Bill Keith will talk with hip hop artist, poet and author Propaganda about his new book "Terraform - Building a Better World." The interview will air at 11:00 a.m. They talked about what it means to terraform the world around us, neighborliness, and his love for the "D." As we head towards Father's Day, they also talked about Prop's song "We Let the Credits Roll" and the challenges of coming to terms with his father.

Return of WE ARE NOT ALONE on Monday June 7, 2021 2-3pm

Join host David Twichell for his return to WHFR and the radio version of WE ARE NOT ALONE after a long hard year. Twichell’s first guest is Cheryl Lynn Carter, a freelance journalist and author, a psychic medium, remote viewer and UFO experiencer. Carter discusses the fact that she has worked closely with law enforcement agencies in the past to help locate missing persons and murder suspects. She describes her past encounters with UFOs and extraterrestrials. Make sure you tune in!

Former WHFR Staff Member Beats Long Odds to Graduate

Former WHFR staff member Dunamis Archer overcame many setbacks to graduate from MSU with his bachelor's degree in communication. Dunamis is the son of longtime WHFR DJ Andre Archer, who hosts the Strictly Gospel show on Tuesdays from 2pm-4pm.

"WHFR Journal" Program Shares Some HFC Flair - THIS Friday, May 28 at 1pm

Listen this Friday, May 28 at 1pm for the WHFR Journal when we'll chat with HFC Music Director G. Kevin Dewey about the upcoming (and first-ever virtual) HFC President's Collage Concert (click on story title for full info). Kevin will provide details about the event that is free and open to all, and share how he reinvented the HFC Music Department throughout the pandemic to come out stronger.
