50 YEARS PAST

To celebrate the end of a year to forget (2020) let's take a look at the end of a good year in music, 1970. From the blues/rock of Johnny Winter and Derek & The Dominoes to the beginnings of jazz/rock fusion with Miles Davis and Soft Machine, it was a good year indeed. Join me (Pat Frisco) for two hours worth on Tuesday January 26 from 5-7pm to listen and enjoy. Forward....Into the Past......

Idles: They are NOT a punk band.

At least according to singer Joe Talbot on numerous occasions. However, there is a reason he has made this declaration on numerous occasions, many outlets and fans often slap genre titles on them like punk, post-punk, post-hardcore, etc. So maybe there is a reason for this. The band's bigger tracks are often up tempo and loud rock tracks with raucous vocals reminiscent of UK street punk outfits like The Exploited (in their early years, think Dead Cities) if they were singing.

WHFR will continue Classical 24 programming indefinitely during the latest COVID Related Shutdowns

WHFR will continue to broadcast Classical 24 on our airwaves for our listener enjoyment. This will remain in place until the campus is opened back and students and WHFR staff are able to return.

WHFR Returns to Classical 24 programming during the latest COVID Related Shutdowns for at least 3 weeks

Thank you WHFR for your excited for our slow return of locally produced programming with WHFR DJs. We had just began to add more DJs to our schedule when the latest COVID-19 related shutdown was announced. Starting TODAY, Wednesday November 18, Henry Ford College has returned to all remote teaching and work for at least 3 weeks if not until the end of the semester. This means that WHFR will have to return Classical 24 for our programming 24/7 until HFC allows students/faculty and staff back on campus. We knew this was a possibility but we were hoping we would be on the air longer with our few WHFR DJs. We will keep you posted when the slow return to WHFR DJs begins AGAIN. Enjoy Classical 24.

Power Outage at HFC and WHFR. Hope Back Up Wednesday

Thank you WHFR listeners to supporting and listening to WHFR. Currently there is a power outage at Henry Ford College and WHFR. We hope the power will be restored quickly but expect to be back on the air Wednesday morning.

A Few WHFR DJ-hosted Programming Returning to the Air!

WHFR has a few live and locally produced programming back on the air! Halloween came early for WHFR listeners with the return to some of our live DJs in the studio. For the first few weeks we will have one show/dj per day and the first round of shows feature both evening, morning and early afternoon listening times. Jazz returns on Tuesday evenings 7-10pm, Wednesday afternoons Noon-2 and Sunday mornings 10am-1pm. Big Band & Broadway return on Friday mornings 10am-noon. Singer-songwriter, folk & indie return on Saturday mornings 10am-noon, Rockabilly/Gothabilly/Psychobilly returns Monday nights 6-8 and Noise/Ambient/Electro-Acoustic returns on Thursday afternoons Noon-2pm.

We hope to have more DJs per day before the end of the year but this all depends on our volunteers, HFC, and how many current cases of COVID-19 are in the community. This has been a long road getting back on the air and we are excited to have a few shows on for the time being.

Please check our website and social media for updates.
