WHFR Juneteenth Special Tomorrow at 1pm on the "WHFR Journal"
Join us tomorrow (Friday, June 14) on the WHFR Journal at 1pm as we celebrate Juneteenth and air the PRX special "The Freed People". This one-hour Humankind documentary examines how America responded to a massive refugee crisis, when four million newly emancipated slaves needed shelter, employment, education and the basic rights at the close of the Civil War. Hear historians, brief readings from letters of people who were there, performances of "Negro Spirituals" and more.
WHFR PRESENTS: Father’s Day Tribute Show
Father’s Day is Coming! Tune in this Sunday, June 16th (Father’s Day), from 4:00 – 7:00 PM as Ms. Marjon hosts the WHFR PRESENTS Father’s Day Tribute Show. The show will consist of R&B and classical soul music by various male artists from the 1970s to the early 2000s. There will be a special RIP tribute to various deceased male artists.

WHFR PRESENTS: Frank Zappa And His Influences
On the inside cover of the Mothers of Invention's first album, Freak Out, Frank Zappa wrote "These People Have Contributed Materially in Many Ways to Make Our Music What it is. Please Do Not Hold it Against Them."
The Sunday, June 9 edition of WHFR PRESENTS will feature the music of Frank Zappa and some of his influences and inspirations that span many genres of music and art. Along with Frank, you may hear the music of Cecil Taylor (avant-garde), Sonny Boy Williamson (blues), Eric Dolphy (jazz), Edgar Varese (avant-classical) and/or Bob Dylan (folk).

WHFR To Participate PAWCHELLA
WHFR is proud to support PAWCHELLA, which is a three-day festival celebrating the human-animal bond while raising funds for over 2,500 animals cared for by Friends for Animals each year. Held this year June 21-23 just down the road right here in Dearborn, there will be something fun for the entire family: contests to test your pup’s agility, activities for kids, live music, shopping, raffles galore and so much more!

The music mix will span from the quieter Folk sounds to harder edges of Rock and Metal.

"Beats To The Rhymes" Debuts on Memorial Day
Former host of The Zone Radio, Detroit's longest running hip hop radio show, returns to WHFR's airwaves with the new radio program, Beats To The Rhymes.
Hosted weekly by DJ Shawn Daniel, showcasing fine selections of instrumental productions and lyrics from artists past to present, each week's playlist will consist of any genre of Detroit Music, from hip hop, funk, soul, rock to jazz - leaving the listener with every broadcast, something fresh for your ears to hear.

Tune in to the WHFR Journal Friday, May 17 at 1pm as we take a fun look at the HFC Mathematics Club and share details about their recent award-winning competition season. Also, we'll air the latest edition of Hawks: Where Are They Now, our alumni spotlight show hosted by Shai James-Boyd. This episode, Shai talks with HFC alumna Tracy Gardner, long time nurse and award-winning mystery novel writer, about her interesting career paths and advice for future novelists. We'll speak with Lori Tucker-Sullivan, HFC alumnus and author of a new book called" I Can't Remember If I Cried: Rock Widows on Life, Love, and Legacy". We'll also hear a short segment called "Memorial" which speaks to the legacy of communicating with our mothers and how important those can be when we lose her.
