WHFR Remembers Two Departed Giants Of Jazz

The jazz world has recently lost many of its elder statesmen in the music. Benny Golson and Quincy Jones are recent losses and now we mourn the loss of the great drummer ROY HAYNES and alto saxophonist LOU DONALDSON.

"Dear Harvey" and Veterans Day Special on WHFR Journal, Nov. 8 at 1pm

Tune in to the WHFR Journal this Friday, Nov. 8 at 1pm when we talk with Dr. John Michael Sefel, Director, and Dr. Chelsea Lonsdale, Faculty Consultant for the upcoming HFC Theatre production of Dear Harvey about this important docudrama. We'll also discuss the exciting opportunity for members of our community to view a panel from the AIDS Quilt that will be on display at the HFC Sisson Gallery in conjunction with this powerful play.

WHFR PRESENTS: Legendary Jazz Drummer Andrew Cyrille At 85

There's something about the vitality and spirit of many of our great drummers in music history. There's Roy Haynes at 99, Billy Hart at 83 and Han Bennink at 82 years of age. And then there's ANDREW CYRILLE. Andrew continues to amaze and create, propelling the music forward in his own groups as well as others. Mr. Cyrille refuses to let the music lay dormant, seeking to create new sounds and enrich the various ensembles he is involved with.

Remembering The Blues: "Ambassador of the Blues: Life Celebration of Steve Soviak"

On November 3rd, 2024, the "Ambassador of the Blues: Life Celebration of Steve Soviak" took place at the Token Lounge, in Westland. Many great Blues Musicians were "Keeping The Blues Alive" here, in Michigan, in appreciation for this Man's great love and dedication to Local Area Blues Music.

This fantastic concert lineup opened with solo-acoustic guitar musical performances by Howard Glazer and Leonardo Gianola. Big Daddy Fox followed the acoustic sets with a set of electric guitar-accompanied soulful vocals. Laith Al-Saadi followed with his guitar and voice.

This Sunday On Hotwax Radio

This Sunday, starting at 7:00pm, the White Rabbit and Hotwax Radio will be saluting our nation’s veterans with a special show. The Armed Forces, mushroom clouds, bugle calls, bootcamp, draft mornings, and a host of other military tributes will be offered to give a heartfelt thanks to those who serve or have served.
