HEART STRING SOUL, released under the name Ryan Allen and His Extra Arms, was recorded with Allen’s dad in his childhood home and will be released on Allen’s label Two Brains Recording Co. on March 25. In conjunction with Black History Month, the Blues With A Feeling show will feature special guest Dr. Willie W. Payne, historian and author, who will talk about his multi-media lecture, The Underground Railroad Michigan Connection. Payne uses music, song and photos of local Underground Railroad stops to narrate stories and describe places used to harbor runaways. He will discuss how slave work songs and spirituals were used to communicate escape plans and how these songs also influenced blues, jazz and other music.
