Beginning yesterday, Kwanzaa celebrates African-American traditions for a week, and WHFR is featuring a special celebration of the those traditions and music in "A Season's Griot 2016," from National Public Radio. Every year, the WHFR staff records a variety of special shows celebrating all of the winter season holidays: Christmas, Hanukkah, the Winter Solstice, Kwanzaa, the New Year--and WHFR's birthday! (We are beginning our 32nd year!) This is our gift to you, our WHFR listeners (and to our staff who deserve a break as we wrap another wonderful year). Enjoy!

12-20-16, 1-2 PM: Tuesday Forum--SPECIAL SHOW: "Philosophy Talk"

Here is a challenging episode of "Philosophy Talk," whose current shows are featured on WHFR every Thursday from 3-4 PM: "Will Innovation Kill Us?" Past innovations are arguably the main reason for many of our current predicaments, which in turn creates a further need to innovate to solve those problems. So is innovation – and our obsession with it – ultimately a force for good or ill?

12-13-16; Dearborn Rotary on IMPACT! at 1 PM

Did you know the Dearborn Rotary foundation is celebrating its 100th anniversary? Find out about the Foundation's work, Rotary Club projects, and programs which benefit kids, along with Roteract which involves college students. Tune in Tuesday, December 13 at 1pm when Lynn speaks with Regan Ford on IMPACT! the show about individuals and groups making a positive difference in the community. Bill Murphy, Board Member of the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies and a former State Director for Michigan MUFON, will join host David Twichell and discuss cornerstone UFO cases like the 1953 Kinchloe AFB UFO case at Kinross in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, where the plane and pilot that were scrambled to intercept the bogey disappeared and have never been found to this day. Host Scott Boatright. Listen to the the new Live from Studio J show (formerly Motor Live Drive @5). Live from 5-6 will be the indie rock sounds from the Band Bogart, who will be playing @ P.J.s Lager House Friday. Also interviews with the one and only Stirling, we will talking about his upcoming birthday celebration Dec. 10th at the Tangent Gallery, and Eugene Strobe of Cosmic Light Shapes, discussing their new release "Nebula" and their release party Friday at the U.F.O.Factory.

Join Host Lynn as she welcomes Maureen Northrup to the November edition of IMPACT! You'll learn how St Christine's serves the neighborhood with bags of groceries, hot meals, bus tickets, rent, utilities, coffee, donuts and conversation--since 1954! Host Betty Daniels will get the full story about the Dearborn-Dearborn Heights Chapter and their work to allow us to make good choices.
