There was a constant stream of people shopping for musical gems all day. The sucess this year makes the 6th Annual Record Show even more promising! 5th Annual WHFR Record Show Saturday Oct 6 from 9am - 4pm
The WHFR Record Show is here on Satruday Oct 6. We currently have all of our table reserved but that should not stop you from stopping by and check out all the records, cds, cassette tapes, DVDs, VHS, and music related items on Saturday. Early bird entry is at 9am for $5 and general admission starts at 10am and goes until 4pm for a sliding scale entry fee ($1-$5). All admission fees benefits WHFR. Dr. Gail Mee updates us on the exciting new school year at Henry Ford Community College in our first half hour. She will be leaving HFCC after six busy years with numerous local accomplishments and both national and local recognition for her work. In the second half, we speak to "Mr. Public Citizen," Ralph Nader, who ran for President in 2000, 2004, and 2008, twice on a Third party ticket and once as an Independent. Should we vote at all this November? For whom? Why don't we hear more about all the choices we actually have on the ballot?
Big Band, Broadway, and Beyond featuring Show Boat Friday Sept 21, 2012 10am - 1pm
Every week Joe spotlights one Broadway musical on Big Band, Broadway, and Beyond and this week it will be Show Boat. Based on the bestselling novel by Edna Ferber and first appeared on Broadway in 1927 with music by Jerome Kern and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, Show Boat is a musical about the lives of performers, stagehands and dockworkers on the Mississippi River show boat, the Cotton Blossom. This musical has been on the Broadway stage several times throughout the years along with several film version of the music. Classic songs from Show Boat are "Ol' Man River," "Make Believe," and "Can't Help Lovin' Dat Man."
"International Day of Peace," celebrated through music on "Theme Attic," Thursday, 10AM-Noon, September, 20th!
The "International Day of Peace" takes place on September 21st. "Theme Attic", the radio show that picks themes and plays music from a variety of genres about selected subjects, will focus on songs loosely based on peace themes this week to draw attention to this important date.
