Radiothon 2012 is HERE and Special Earth Day Pledge Incentive

It is finally here, Radiothon 2012, WHFR's annual pledge drive. One week out of the year we ask our loyal listeners to pledge their support to their favorite noncommercial independent radio station - WHFR. This year Radiothon is April 22-28. Since Radiothon's first day is on Earth Day (Sunday April 22) we have special Earth Day pledge incentive: if you donate $30 or more on Earth day, WHFR will "give you the world" - a stress relief global with WHFR's logo on it. WHFR Radiothon Kickoff Party this Friday!

WHFR would like to invite you for a fun night out to help us kick off Radiothon week 2012. Join us at Bailey's in Dearborn, this Friday, April 20th for the 2012 WHFR Radiothon Kick off party. Local DJ's from WHFR's "The Mix" show will be performing live all night, spinning a variety of House and Dance music. Local DJ's include DJ Stop-e, DJ Roach, DJ Disc, DJ Jessi Kay, DJ X/S and Mr. Jeffery Woodard. The party takes place on the lower level and goes from 8pm-2am. Clover is a $5 donation at the door with all proceeds benefiting WHFR. This is a 21+ event. Hope to see you there!

Earth Day is on Sunday April 22. "Theme Attic," the radio show that picks themes and plays music from a variety of genres about selected subjects, will loosely focus on songs that feature nature themes. Join host DJ Phil Maq on Thursday, April 19 at 10:00 AM for his clever and unusual takes on music!

Tonight on The Rock Spectrum Radio Show

Tonight, Tuesday the 17th from 10 p.m. to midnight, The Rock Spectrum Radio Show with Steve Avigne will feature music entirely from the band Alter Bridge to celebrate two of the members birthdays this week. Alter Bridge is a rock supergroup named after a bridge right here in Michigan that separated Detroit from Grosse Pointe and contains the instrumental section that formerly played for Creed. Tune in for some great rock from every part of the spectrum!

JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT Featured on Big Band, Broardway and Beyond Friday April 13

Make sure you tune into the Big Band, Broadway, and Beyond this Friday from 10-1pm when Joe will be featuring the musical JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT. This Andrew Lloyd Webber musical with lyrics by Tim Rice started out as a 15-minute pop cantata, then concept album and finally performed on stage after the success of Webber and Rice's Jesus Christ Superstar. This musical has no spoken dialogue and completely sung-through, based on the story of Joseph and the "coat of many colors" from the Bible's Book of Genesis.

Second annual Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductee tribute on "Theme Attic" Thursday, 10AM-Noon, April 12!

There are 17 musical acts and sidemen elected to "The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame" this year. "Theme Attic," the radio show that picks themes and plays music from a variety of genres about selected subjects, will focus on songs associated with the various new members, who range from Freddie King to Don Kirshner. Tuesday FORUM, 4-3-12, 1-2 PM: We Are Not Alone wsg/Dennis Balthaser

Dennis Balthaser was on the show almost a year ago when we talked about the pyramids in Egypt and around the world and now he has some new and startling revelations concerning the pyramids. Balthaser is an independent researcher, journalist and lecturer living in Roswell, New Mexico. His primary focus is the Roswell Incident of 1947; however, his research extends to investigations of Area 51, underground bases and ancient Egypt. He is a Certified Mutual UFO Network Field Investigator.

Annual WHFR Festival of Enlightenment Holistic Fair THIS Saturday - March 24 11am-5pm

It's time for WHFR's 4th annual "Festival of Enlightenment Holistic Fair" on Saturday, March 24, 2012, from 11am - 5pm on the main campus of Henry Ford Community College in Dearborn. The event will be in the same location as last year's festival - The Student and Culinary & Arts Center - which proved to be a spacious and invigorating venue. We'll have free live music by local musicians in our food court and a great array of vendors, readers and body healers to enjoy. Admission $5 and students Free with School I.D.
