WHFR Supporting Local Music on "Motor Live Drive" Thursdays at 5:00

As "Motor Live Drive @ 5" celebrates it's third anniversary showcasing local bands live in the WHFR studio, we are very excited with the upcoming schedule! Heating up the airwaves on Thursday, February 4th at 5:00 pm, the rock band Phang will be performing their debut CD "Princess Magma". And joining the team February 11th, the three-piece garage band Ruggs will be shaking things up. WHFR Forum: "We Are Not Alone" -- 1pm, Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Bill Konkolesky discusses the interworkings of Mutual UFO Network (MUFON) as well as his new book "Experiencer: Raised in Two Worlds". The State Director for Michigan MUFON has been featured on SciFi’s "Abduction Diaries" and Peter Jennings’ "Seeing is Believing". He has been a guest on numerous radio shows and lecturer on the alien-abduction phenomenon.

Join us 1pm Tuesday to learn what it is like to live in this reality, while enduring occasional visits from another.

"Old Empire" on "Random Access" -- 7pm Wednesday, January 27

Gabe Dodson is the singer/songwriter for Old Empire. Evoking everything from Motown, to 60’s surf rock, traditional country and NYC new wave, Old Empire's music spans the breadth of American pop. OE's debut, "Queen City Quandaries", was recorded at Ferndale's Tempermill Studio.

Tune in 7pm tomorrow to hear the music and meet the musicians.

Jill Jack to perform on "Acoustic Alternatives"

Talented Singer/Songwriter Jill Jack will be live in studio on Sunday, Jan 31 at noon on WHFR's "Acoustic Alternatives". Jill will play songs from her new "Songwriter Sessions" disc. Join your host John Bommarito for this secial treat, and tune in to "Acoustic Alternatives" every Sunday from 10am-1pm for this and other amazing music and live performances.

Robert Taylor on "Metaphysically Speaking" -- WHFR Forum Tuesday, January 17, 2010, 1pm EST

Robert Taylor, scholar and teacher of Vedic philosophy, Bhakti Yoga practioner, author and TV host is Michael Holloway's guest this month.

Mr. Taylor is a featured speaker and writer in the area of metaphysics. He has hosted several media shows on
spirituality. The Grosse Pointe resident produces and hosts "Out of the Ordinary, Into the Extraordinary" a popular holistic metaphysical TV show.

Martin Luther King Tribute -- Monday, January 18

Tune in for a special one-hour tribute to Martin Luther King with commentary from Andrew Young, Rosa Parks, and Edward M. Kennedy. Music of Pete Seeger, Richie Havens, and the SNCC Freedom Singers, takes you back to the 60s. Enjoy the broadcast at 9am and 1pm.

Special Guests Saturday, January 16 -- Noon - 4pm

"Singers Of United Lands" shares its special brand of world music on "Common Ground" noon-2pm. Learn about the origin of this fascinating project, meet the musicians, and enjoy the wonderful music!

Then stay tuned for Sheila Landis and her unique style of Jazz, Latin and blues on "No Boys A-Loud" from 2pm-4pm. Sheila has been named "Outstanding Jazz Vocalist" by The Detroit Music Awards seven times.

Tomorrow, January 7, Carrick Secorski performs on "Motor Live Drive @ 5".

Carrick is a local singer/songwriter who plays his original works, and interprets covers from artists such as The Beatles and Bob Dylan.

So keep your radio tuned to WHFR Thursday 5pm for a live in-house concert heard only on the station "Making Waves"...where we don't just talk about supporting local music, we do it.

We Are Not Alone -- WHFR Forum Tuesday, January 5, 2010, 1pm EST

Donald Schmitt is David's guest this month.

Mr. Schmitt is the former co-director of the J. Allen Hynek Center for UFO Studies where he served as Director of Special Investigations for 10 years. He graduated cum laude from Concordia University with a degree in Liberal Arts. He is the author of dozens of articles about UFOs, as well as the co-author of three best-selling books including a newly updated version of "Witness to Roswell."

Showtime's movie "ROSWELL", Golden-Globe-nominated best TV movie, was based on his first book.
