They called him the 'MUSIC WITNESS", as visual artist and sculptor JEFF SCHLANGER would be there, canvas and materials in hand, to witness and contribute to the music and art happening on the Lower East Side of New York City for many years. He was a mainstay at New York's VISION FESTIVAL since its inception in 1996. The community lost Jeff in June of 2026...
Jeff would be diligently working in real time, throughout the entirety of each and every set from start to finish, year after year. The results would delight the performing musicians and attendees to the extent that many of his works were used for album covers and displays at music festivals. He was an inspiration to the many musicians, artists and fans who knew his work and interacted with him.
A memorial gathering is scheduled November 11 by Arts for Arts, the organization that produces the Vision Festival and gave Mr. Schlanger a Lifetime Achievement Award in 2014. Tune in on SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 9, from 4-7pm EST, with a repeat broadcast on THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 11am-2pm EST, locally on WHFR 89.3fm and worldwide streaming at http://whfr.fm to hear many of the recordings that featured the extraordinary artwork of JEFF SCHLANGER.
