They called him 'The Father of Rock and Roll". It's often debated as to exactly where and when Rock and Roll Music began, but it's pretty much a consensus that it was CHUCK BERRY who took the music of Rhythm and Blues and made it into the music that we know today as rock and roll. Citing the blues great T-Bone Walker as a major influence, Berry would develop his unique guitar stylings and utilize the talents of Chess Records bluesmen, Willie Dixon, Otis Spann and Johnnie Johnson to bring his music to the people...
Charles Edward Anderson Berry was born October 18, 1926 in St. Louis Missouri and after meeting Muddy Waters in Chicago in 1955, he would be signed to CHESS RECORDS and soon find his 1955 single "Maybelline" at the top of the charts. He would go on to record many hits and become a major influence on countless musicians over the years that continue to this day. British Invasion artists, in particular, would cover his music and bring it to an even broader audience in the 1960's. It has been suggested that one could take the stylings of Chuck Berry, speed the music up, and you have the music of such punk rockers as the Ramones and Sex Pistols.
