Cherry went on to record as a leader and eventually incorporating musical influences from around the world, particularly from the Eastern and African nations, studying and performing on instruments such as wood flutes, the DOUS N'GOUNI, BERIMBAU, as well as piano and organ.
A move to Sweden in the late '60s resulted in the creation of a living and performance space, The ORGANIC MUSIC SOCIETY. There he performed and recorded with some of the world's finest world music musicians such as Nana Vasconcellos, eventually fusing world music with jazz in the band CODONA. Cherry would also reunite with his former partners Dewey Redman, Charlie Haden and Ed Blackwell in the band OLD AND NEW DREAMS.
