CREATIVE ARTS COLLECTIVE

WHFR Presents (4:00 pm - 7:00 pm) "DETROIT'S CREATIVE ARTS COLLECTIVE"
The CREATIVE ARTS COLLECTIVE was a major force in avant-garde music, presenting concerts at the Detroit Institiute of Arts from 1979-1992. Established by Detroit guitarist A. SPENCER BAREFIELD and Chicagoans Roscoe Mitchell and Dushon Mosely, the CAC brought together creative jazz musicians from Detroit, Chicago and New York for a series of concerts that helped shape Detroit's creative music scene. (Continued...)
Out of the CAC concerts came recordings by Barefield with such jazz greats as Oliver Lake, Andrew Cyrille, Richard Davis and Detroiters Jaribu Shahid, Tani Tabbal and Tony Holland. Detroit's beloved Sci-Fi band, Griot Galaxy brought members of the CAC together for scintillating concerts and recordings with FARUQ Z. BEY leading the way and an unforgettable residency at Cobb's Corner.
Radio station WHFR will present the music of the Creative Arts Collective and its members on SUNDAY OCTOBER 5 from 4-7pm EDT with an encore presentation on THURSDAY OCTOBER 9 from 11am-2pm via the weekly program WHFR PRESENTS. Music from A. Spencer Barefield, Roscoe Mitchell, Griot Galaxy, Oliver Lake and others will be featured on this special presentation.

WHFR PRESENTS airs every Sunday beginning (usually) at 4:00 pm with a rotating cast of WHFR DJs, taking in-depth looks into the many genres of music that WHFR has to offer. Tune in at 89.3 on the FM dial in Dearborn/Detroit and surrounding communities, or listen anywhere via our online streamer.
