WHFR officially turns 40 on December 20 and we're throwing an on-air birthday party — and you're invited to celebrate with us all day long!
Starting at 10:00 a.m., we'll be revisiting the magic of our live Alumni Reunion from November, sharing some of those special shows and familiar voices again. We're also digging into our archives to add vintage shows, clips, and other highlights from the past four decades, showcasing just a taste of what 40 years of independent, non-commercial radio has brought to WHFR listeners.
Amazing people have volunteered and worked here over the last forty years, and we are forever grateful to WHFR founder and former Station Advisor, Jay Korinek, for his visionary leadership and many years of guidance and commitment to our cause. To those we've lost over the years: you are deeply missed, and your spirit lives on in our rich history and in every broadcast we air. To our current staff of volunteers: we are truly grateful for your dedication, creativity, and unwavering commitment to the cause of non-commercial, independent, educational radio that is WHFR. We also extend heartfelt thanks to our community partners and the Henry Ford College Board of Trustees for their support, belief, and trust in WHFR and in our mission to serve the community with programming heard little else on the metro-Detroit radio dial.
This day is, at its core, about saying thank you to our loyal listeners, donors, and supporters — whether you tuned in years ago (or even from the very start), just discovered us recently, or came back for the reunion. What better way to celebrate than by reliving the sounds, stories, and songs that built WHFR and continue to define who we are?
