He would have been 70 and I'm certain that he would still be delighting, confusing, and amazing us if we were still with us today. Hailing from Beaverton, Michigan, singer/songwriter Brandon Calhoon has traveled from coast to coast entrancing audiences with his passionate lyrics and soulful blues-inspired songs.

As a live entertainer, his popularity has grown since his initial introduction on the television show Rockstar INXS. And has continued to rise after his 2009 EP release “Detroit City” (Blunk Brothers). Since then he has continued to write and create music that shines from his soul.

Pianist and innovator Matthew Shipp came to New York City as a 23 year old in 1984 and quickly emerged as one of the most powerful and unique voices on the music scene. His associations with William Parker, David S. Ware, Roscoe Mitchell and Rob Brown helped Matthew to realize his vision in music. Shipp was born on December 7, 1960 and will celebrate his 50th birthday as the Spirits Rejoice program airs from 6-10pm.
